Gapski gets 2 wins for Seahawks
The Boothbay Region High School indoor track team had a strong showing Jan. 23 in a meet at University of Southern Maine in Gorham. Ben Gapski, the sole athlete from Wiscasset, won both the open and triple jump events and placed second in the 55m hurdles. The team had four podium placements overall.
According to coach Nick Scott, Gapski set program records in the long jump, triple jump and 55m hurdles at the previous meet.
Varsity boys results were: Nathan Percival and Kolton McKenney placed ninth and 11th in the open one-mile run in 6:04.78 and 7:44.85; AJ Crocker and Ross Gaffney placed fifth and sixth in the open two-mile run in 10:58.12 and 12:36.78; the boys team placed third in the open 4x200m relay in 1:46.16; Ben Gapski (Wiscasset) placed first in the open long jump with 18-10.75; Gapski placed first in the open triple jump with 38-0; Lysander Lefevre and Gaffney placed 19th and 24th in the 55m dah in 7.75 and 8.58; Lefevre and Percival placed 13th and 16th in the 200m dash in 27.97 and 30.15; Gapski placed second in the 55m hurdles in 8.87; and Casey Phelps and Logan Bourne placed fourth and fifth in the shot put with 35-5.5 and 34-9.75.
For the girls: Maggie McCarthy placed fifth in the open 800m run in 3:00.98; McCarthy placed fourth in the open two-mile run in 14:25.12; Rose Campbell and Kora McKenney placed sixth and 19th in the 55m dash in 7.99 and 10.58; Campbell placed seventh in the 200m dash in 29.42; and Campbell and McKenney placed fourth and seventh in the shot put with 24-1.75 and 18-11.25.
The next meet, and last of the regular season, is scheduled for Jan. 30 in Gorham.
