Four Special Olympians chosen for 2026 National Games

Four Boothbay Region Special Olympic athletes have been chosen to participate as competitors and alternates in the 2026 National Summer Special Olympics Games. They will represent the state of Maine at the Games, which will take place June 19-26, 2026 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Valerie Giles will compete on Maine’s tennis team. Grace Giles will compete on Maine’s soccer team. Joey Ranco has been chosen as an alternate for Maine’s basketball team and Deshawn Averill has been chosen as an alternate for Maine’s soccer team. They will start soon preparing and practicing, as well as team meetings and training camp, with lots of preparation before the event.
