Edgecomb School Committee lists budget priorities for FY 27
For years, the Edgecomb School Committee tried working a parking lot paving project into the budget without success, but this year it might actually happen.
During the Jan. 28 school committee meeting, the long-delayed paving project was named one of four Fiscal Year 27 budget priorities. Other projects receiving serious consideration are setting money aside for the school's heating system and redoing classroom carpets. Superintendent Bob Kahler also said in early budget drafts there is funding for a full-time cafeteria worker.
In other action, the committee entered into a contract with Affinity Lighting in Dover, New Hampshire to install LED (light emitting diodes) lights in the school. Kahler reported the town received a community grant to partially fund the project, and the school would provide remaining monies.
The committee also approved two policy revisions. An updated curriculum development policy now better defines how often the principal should revisit each curriculum to guard against reviews of multiple subjects in the same year. A new Child Find Policy requires the school's special education department to identify pre-school children (ages 3, 4, and 5) for services. Kahler said these services are being transferred from the state's Child Development Services to public schools.
The committee meets next at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 in the school cafeteria.
