Disappointed with decision
Dear Editor:
I have to say I am much more than disappointed with the Boothbay Region Refuse Disposal District Directors decision to not open the pick pile building due to insurance liabilities and OSHA safety standards.
What a bunch of garbage, pun intended. Recycling has never been a priority of our refuse district and that is shameful. Other towns have massive recycling areas for residents to pick through so that it diminishes the amount of trash that just get hauled to be burned or dumped somewhere else. We already lost plastic recycling here on the peninsula and it has been intimated that glass is no longer being recycled. You have to go to Freeport to recycle your plastic now. Its outrageous.
I have picked up numerous items at the transfer station that were usable. Some really nice items. Some that were given to others who
could use them. Some that were repaired and given to non-profits.
We generate way to much trash in the United States and reusing is something everyone should support. It is imperative in this day and age of overwhelming amounts of trash in an area that is growing that we recycle, reuse, and repurpose. We need to think of future needs of the area as it grows and think outside the box.
I urge those who agree that this is unacceptable, to go to the next directors meeting and make your voices heard Thursday, Dec. 11.
