Candace Vlcek opens 2026 exhibits
Candace Vlcek of Jefferson will be the first artist of 2026 to exhibit in the hospital’s Hall Gallery, January through Feb. 27. Her pastels, oils and acrylics all provide a glimpse of life on the Midcoast, a place she has called home since 2021. Prior to then, she and her husband lived in several other parts of the US as well as Costa Rica. They returned to live in Maine three different times since 2005 and now call Jefferson home.
Primarily self-taught, she began pursuing art full time over 30 years ago when she took a class on pastels and “fell in love” with the medium. Working in an impressionistic style, she seeks to capture the essence of the subject matter through the use of colors both seen and felt, ”...those beautiful moments that may go unnoticed.”
Vlcek has exhibited widely throughout the US and Costa Rica winning many awards for her work. She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America as well as several other pastel societies. She is an exhibiting member and board member of the Pemaquid Art Gallery.
The Hall Gallery is open daily on the main floor of the hospital, 35 Miles St., Damariscotta.
A portion of the sale price for any art sold benefits Miles Memorial Hospital League.
