Curtain goes up on 'Phantom of the Opera’ Friday!
As the school year draws to a close, Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) is proud to announce a production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s legendary masterpiece, “The Phantom of the Opera.”
When one thinks of 'Phantom,' images of massive opera houses, a sprawling cast, and a multi-thousand-dollar budget usually come to mind. It raises the question: How can a small, rural school bring such a technical giant to life?
The inspiration for this production came from a piece of advice Dr. Mary Miller received from a director at a Broadway theater workshop in NYC: "There is no 'right' way to do a show; you just need a willingness to think outside the box." By whittling the production down to its core essentials and focusing on the power of the story, BRHS is taking a risk that proves great art isn't about the size of the budget, but the depth of the heart behind it. Mrs. Susie Taylor has been second in command for this production working tirelessly on sets and costumes; with lighting by Garrett Carter.
This "big show with a small cast" features an incredible lineup of students with big hearts! The Phantom: Jayden Coulombe; Christine Daaé: Addie Barter; Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny: John Cooper; Carlotta Giudicelli: Annielyn Mackusick (Class of 2016), Madame Giry: Samantha Colby’: Meg Giry: Emma Scott; Monsieur Lefèvre: Lee Pangburn; Monsieur André: Kora McKenney; Monsieur Firmin: Matthew Little; Ubaldo Piangi: Hailey Babineau; Ensemble: Chloe Joneth, Isabel Fanslau, Bryson MacKusick and Elijah Smith. Backstage and technical crew: Kolton McKenney, Autumn Thierman and Maya Rhys Jacobs.
