On Friday night, Boothbay concluded its most successful 8-man football season since the league formed in 2019: Five wins, two losses and a second-place finish in the Crabtree Points. The regular season success earned Boothbay at least one home playoff game. The Seahawks will host rival Telstar (Bethel) who finished third with a 3-5 record in the conference semifinals on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.

On Oct. 17, Boothbay earned a hard-fought come-from-behind win in Bethel, against the Rebels, which went a long way in securing second place. Boothbay trailed 20-6 midway through the third quarter. Boothbay converted a fourth-down play on a defensive pass interference penalty and benefited from an ensuing unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. The extra 30 yards in penalty yardage resulted in Boothbay keeping the drive alive and scoring three second half touchdowns.

Boothbay senior defender Jayden Orne believes the team's success all started in pre-season workouts. "The work we put in the summer made us believe in ourselves. When we were down against Telstar, we still believed in ourselves."

Orne scored two touchdowns Oct. 23 in his team's victory over Mt. View 52-0. He believes Boothbay has earned the right to host next weekend's playoff game. "We are ready for Telstar. They have a couple of great players who are athletic and wicked fast, but we have a great defense."

Royce Rogers is a senior who agrees with Orne about Boothbay's preparedness for next weekend's playoff game. "What matters to me is we won tonight, and regardless who we play, we are ready."

For Boothbay coach Ed Crocker, Mt. View proved to be an ideal final regular season game. The Mustangs finished the season 0-7. The Seahawks worked on new offensive plays in the first half while using the second half to play his reserves. "We worked on a lot of things in the first half with our passing game. It was good for us to run those plays which worked. On defense, I was impressed with how they stayed focused the whole game. I'm excited about the playoffs."

Boothbay's season came down to how they fared against Telstar, Maranacook and Sacopee Valley. Boothbay defeated all three which secured it second place. "Big reason for our success we had a quarterback (Miles Murray) who knows how to lead and put people where they are supposed to be. Peyton Barter is a big reason, too. I think he is the conference's player of the year," Crocker said.

The Boothbay/Telstar winner plays either No. 1 Old Orchard Beach or No. 4 Maranacook, who play on Friday, Oct. 30 in Old Orchard Beach.
