Bayville Buzz
The fog has swallowed the sunshine, frustrating those who are here for a short visit, but offering those fortunate enough to be here longer, the chance to get things done without FOMO. Yes, you can thank the fog for this week's Buzz.
In a scene reminiscent of the "Wonder Years," Josh Morton found a video that he took of the Bayville Parade way back on July 4, 1994. It was fun to see little kids who now have kids of their own and bittersweet to see some who are no longer with us. Word is there are more films in the vault, and once all the proper releases are signed, they will be featured at the Bayville Megaplex.
While we are going back in time, maybe brother Greg can get Duke and the Drivers back together for a reunion tour that kicks off before the show!
That scream of glee you heard from the Inn was Karen realizing that daughter Rachel was downstairs. That’s right, while Jimmy was sneaking out of town (more on that later) Rachel was sneaking in. Phil and Rachel had been plotting the surprise for weeks and nailed it! They broke the news to Karen by texting a photo of the two of them smiling on the porch together.
Rachel is living the good life in Naples, Florida, working as the assistant event coordinator at Bear’s Paw (of Jack Nicklaus fame) Country Club. Rachel obviously knows how to make sure people are having fun! She even stopped in Charleston to see brother David on the way up. We won’t say anything more about him until he is actually here!
Last time I saw Rachel was in January when there was a large contingency of Bayvillians in black tie attire for the amazing wedding of Anna and Josh in Florida. It was a beautiful daytime ceremony and one heck of a party. The party went later than this reporter - and this reporter went pretty late. Now that I think of it, I’m still waiting for the Buzz finance department to cut me that reimbursement check.
Breaking news! The Roberts Brothers Family Circus will be back in town - for one show only - Aug. 2. Where else can you get two lobsters, clams, corn on the cob, salads, desserts, a classic comedy show and an incredible waterfront setting for $48 per person? That’s right it’s the Lobster Bake Extravaganza! Please do your part, and let Phil know how many from your cottage will be there. Sign up is at the Post Office or reply to the upcoming email.
Mark you calendars!
July 25: The MSO will be giving a free, outdoor concert at the Brunswick Mall at 6:30. Our own Julie O’Brien Merrill is a member and will be there performing. It looks like a nice selection of songs and should be fun.
July 26: Pickleball Tournament, Waterfront Festival, Ice Cream Social. Always a great day!
Aug. 2: BVC Annual Meeting, followed by a special meeting of the BIA for a vote on the proposed bylaw changes. As the most recent email states, if you want to propose any amendments at the meeting, they need to be submitted by July 23.
More news from Lawn Cottage is that Celebration is again headed north for the annual Friendship Sloop races. As always, Greg will be captaining a large crew. Let’s all hope granddaughter Haven is good at her job as ferry spotter!
With Anna and Mary Elizabeth visiting Mom and Dad Spencer - along with their friend Chloe -it was time to light the fire pit and get the party (I’m noticing a theme here) started. Usually, the first one is a tune up where things are pretty low key while people get their sea legs back - not this year! When cleanup was complete, Jimmy was gone, off to the airport for destination unknown. His secret forever safe with the Buzz. So, if you have any secrets, please send them to thejeffallison@gmail.com
