Adams Pond on track despite increased drought
Nov. 11, Boothbay Region Water District (BRWD) General Manager Weston Alley reported that Adams Pond’s usable capacity is on track with last year’s figures, despite the county’s upgraded drought status. As of Nov. 4, the county is in a D3 extreme drought, along with most of the state.
Adams Pond is at about 74% usable above the intake, versus last year’s 75%. Alley also said the water source was up about 3 inches when he recently measured it.
“That’s great. That’s good news,” he said.
As previously reported in the Register, if needed to preserve Adams Pond for the upcoming winter, BRWD is permitted to take another 10 million gallons from Knickerbocker Lake before it reaches the 51.5 million limit set by the Department of Environmental Protection.
Alley said the average water flow for the week of Nov. 3 was 323,000 gallons per day, compared to last year’s 280,000.
