Southport planning board approves home renovation with 1 condition
On Nov. 5, the Southport Planning Board conditionally approved one application and tabled another. The board unanimously approved Kyle Barnard’s application to complete interior renovations for John and Mercedes Bitting at their Skipper’s Point Road address.
The Bittings contracted Hawkins Custom Builders of Boothbay Harbor for the interior renovations which include work on the kitchen, and bathrooms, adding dormers on the roof and moving stairs to the second floor.
The board placed one condition on the application concerning location of the floor box. It must be cantilevered over the new portion of the foundation and located outside the side yard setback. Chairman Skip Simonds reported the condition was placed because the deck extension was in the 75-foot setback portion. "It would've increased the foundation in the side setback and you can't do that," he said. "So he is going to cantilever it so it doesn't require a foundation."
The property is in a residential district. The Bittings reside in Oakland, Maryland.
The board tabled Mimi Jordan Sherin’s application for replacing a rotting open deck at her Breakneck Hill Road property. Her proposal includes opening the deck around the south side and connecting it to the west side.
Her property is in a residential district. Jordan Sherin resides in Branford, Connecticut.
The board meets next at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3 in the town hall.
