36ers win fifth straight with late-inning rally over Gray Post 86
The Boothbay 36ers extended their winning streak to five July 15 by scoring the tying and eventual winning runs in their last at-bat. The 36ers trailed 3-2 in the seventh inning against the Gray Post 86 Warriors before Aidan Sanborn delivered the game-winning hit. With two out and runners on second and third, Sanborn hit a sharp liner to center field scoring Shawn Markowitz and Dom Frisone.
Boothbay improved to 7-2, and is in third place in Maine Senior American Legion Baseball standings. Gray fell to 5-6. "We barely had enough players to field a team," said Boothbay Manager Adam Harkins regarding his team's victory. "We played unbelievably well with no errors. Our bats were hot, and the pitching was fantastic. It was a fun night of baseball."
The 36ers started strong posting two runs in the first inning. Gray countered with two runs in the second and one in the third. Boothbay had six hits. Shawn Gamage doubled and Sanborn singled three times. Finn Harkins and Dom Frisone also registered singles. Boothbay left seven men on base.
Starting pitcher Hayden Chase pitched three innings, allowed three runs, all earned, on five hits, struck out three and walked none. Liam Jacobs pitched four innings and allowed no runs, one hit, struck out seven and walked one.
On July 16, the 36ers hosted two opponents at Sherman Field which saw them lose to Capital Area 9-1, and rebound in the second game, defeating Skowhegan, 6-1. Despite the loss, the 36ers remain in third place with an 8-3 record.
Capital Area (2-8) took advantage of three unearned runs in building a 7-0 lead after three innings. Boothbay managed only three singles (Blake, Gamage, Markowitz).
Boothbay pitcher Blake Grady pitched two innings, allowed four runs (one earned) on four hits, walked one and struck out three. Sanborn pitched two innings, allowed three runs (all earned) on three hits, walked one and struck out two. Hunter Hamilton pitched two innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits, and struck out two.
Against Skowhegan, the 36ers led 3-1 and scored three more in the sixth to secure the victory. Blade Brann accounted for two of the team's six hits with a single and double. Frisone had two singles. Markowitz and Jacobs also singled. Jacob Watkinson pitched 5.2 innings, allowed one run (earned), on four hits, walked one and struck out eight. Sanborn recorded the game's final two outs. He walked one and struck out one.
