Castlebay in Concert, Saturday, June 6th at Sail, Power, & Steam Museum

The ever-popular Castlebay performs in concert at the Sail, Power, & Steam Museum (SPSM) as part of 2026 summer concert series on Saturday, June 6th at 7 p.m. at the museum at 75 Mechanic St., Rockland in the South End.

A popular Midcoast favorite, Julia Lane and Fred Gosbee of Castlebay have been performing together since 1986 for audiences in folk clubs, through concert series, libraries, and festivals from Cape Breton to Florida, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.

They are well known in the Midcoast region for their sensitive arrangements of traditional songs and their original compositions.

Julia has a clear soprano voice, which has been compared to Jean Redpath, and she is a skilled player on the Celtic harp. Fred has a warm, rich, baritone voice and plays (mostly) 14-string guitar, but occasionally will swap his guitar for an Irish flute or viola to accompany Julia.

When not performing, Julia is gardening or researching archives of songs collected in Maine in preparation for Volume 2 of “Bygone Ballads of Maine,” while Fred splits his time between building another 14-string guitar and volunteering on the Virginia, a 51-foot pinnace reproduction of the first English ship built in North America (Popham, Maine, 1607).

All Castlebay recordings (CDs, downloads, and streaming) can be found at castlebay.bandcamp.com.

Concert patrons will enjoy festival seating, and tickets are $25 at the door.
