Zaid Osman reaches 1,000 career points milestone at IMG Academy
Zaid Osman scored the 1,000th point of his high school career on Thursday, Feb. 6 during a home game in Bradenton, Florida against North Carolina’s Combine Academy. The 6’8” center and senior captain reached the milestone in the third quarter of the game on a foul shot. Reaching this historic mark from the free throw line was fitting for Osman, a strong and physical “big man” who scored nearly a third of his high school points from the line. A week earlier, Osman also celebrated reaching 800 career rebounds during his tenure at IMG Academy.
Coach Dan Barto, head of player development for IMG, describes Osman as a “respectful, energetic, perseverant and caring student-athlete.” Barto added, “During his five years at IMG, I have watched Zaid quickly rise to the challenges of the stringent IMG demands. I have seen a more dynamic version of what this young man can achieve each year!” Barto also shared that, “Zaid is an absolute joy to work with. His competitive spirit and curiosity are always present. The leadership he has shown the last two years on the varsity level is the highest we have had in my time at IMG Academy.”
Off the court, Osman maintains a 4.3 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. In addition to his academic and basketball responsibilities, he serves as a Student Ambassador for IMG Admissions for prospective basketball students, a representative for the Ascender Student Athlete Council, and a volunteer with Special Olympics Basketball of Manatee County. Zaid also served as a Fundraising Captain for IMG’s Coaches vs. Cancer campaign and helped to raise more than $25,000 for the American Cancer Society.
In the fall, Zaid will be attending Whitman College in Washington state where he received a merit scholarship and accepted an offer to become a member of the men’s basketball team under Coach John Lamanna, 2023-2024 Northwest Conference Coach of the Year. He plans to major in economics.
Zaid is the son of Jennifer Page Osman and Mohamed Osman of Boothbay Harbor, Maine and Bradenton, Florida and the grandson of Stanley and Sandra Page of Boothbay Harbor.
