"Out of the Past" - (1947; 1 hour, 37 minutes) - Film historian Jeannie MacDonald will host the final film for season 8 of in Lincoln Theater's Classic Film Club, “Stars and Noirs.” The quiet life of small-town gas station owner Jeff Bailey (Robert Mitchum) is interrupted when a figure from his shady past, small-time crook Joe Stephanos (Paul Valentine), recognizes him. Stephanos' boss, crooked gambler Whit Sterling (Kirk Douglas), had hired Jeff to track down Kathie Moffat (Jane Greer), a girlfriend who shot Whit and made off with his $40,000. Jeff and Kathie fell in love, but she left him to go back to Sterling, who now wants Jeff to settle a few old scores. This is the ultimate film noir with a killer cast! Using the power of film, art and ideas, Mountainfilm inspires audiences to create a better world. Held every Memorial Day weekend, the Mountainfilm festival brings together a community of filmmakers and change makers, showcasing documentary films that celebrate adventure, activism, social justice, environment and indomitable spirit.
