Selectmen ready to move forward after contentious hearing
Boothbay selectmen ended their March 25 meeting reflecting on what happened the previous night. Selectmen held a hearing on their Refuse District representative Jody Lewis' fitness to serve. After the 98-minute session ended, selectmen voted 3-0 against removing him from the position.
Selectman Dale Harmon provided some perspective on the previous night's event. "I need to say something before we adjourn. I hope both boards have learned a little bit from this, and I hope we all can move forward with better communication."
Selectmen Julie Roberts, Chuck Cunningham and Russ Pinkham all agreed.
In other action, the town faces an April 1 deadline in naming 2026 election workers. So selectmen appointed 11 residents: Eleanor Alley, Sally Barter, Lana Brandt, Christine Bastien, Barbara Dusseault, Tracey Godleski, William Hammond, Lucian C. Laurie Jr., Sharron Oakland, Sheila Sears and Cathy Sherrill.
Kevin Bowler updated selectmen on the joint Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Veterans' Memorial Project. She reported the committee received a $200,000 quote which covers pavers and stones. "I'm now getting the cost for installation, engraving, and excavation, So I'm thinking ... about $500,000 is what we have to look for."
Bowler said the project would reach completion in probably two to three years, depending on how quickly money is raised. Selectmen meet next at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 8 in the conference room.
