This week at the Harbor Theater
"The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" - (PG; 1 hour, 38 minutes) - After foiling Bowser’s last grand scheme, Mario and Luigi are ready for a well-earned break—but adventure has a way of finding them. When Bowser Jr. launches a bold mission to rescue his father and restore the Koopa legacy, the brothers are propelled into an all-new journey that stretches far beyond the Mushroom Kingdom… and into the stars. Teaming up with familiar friends and a cast of cosmic newcomers, Mario and Luigi must navigate gravity-defying galaxies, dazzling new worlds, and plenty of classic-style challenges to stop Bowser Jr.’s interstellar takeover. For those who grew up guiding Mario through pixelated pipes and side-scrolling levels, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie brings a welcome dose of nostalgia—blending the charm, humor, and adventurous spirit of the original games with a vibrant, big-screen twist. Wednesday, May 20, 2 p.m. (OCAP), Thursday, May 21, 7 p.m.
“[the film] is good-hearted and colorful, and has genuine affection for the fans.” – Nell Minow, Movie Mom
"The Sheep Detectives" - (PG; 1 hour, 45 minutes) - When their shepherd George (Hugh Jackman) settles in each night to read aloud from his favorite detective novels, he never imagines his flock is hanging on every word. But when a mysterious incident unsettles the quiet rhythm of farm life, these unlikely listeners put their newfound knowledge to the test—taking the case into their own hooves. With curiosity, cleverness, and a surprisingly sharp eye for human behavior, the sheep set out to uncover the truth, proving that even the most unassuming among us can be extraordinary sleuths. The Sheep Detectives is a witty, feel-good mystery full of charm, humor, and heart—perfect for anyone who loves a good whodunit with an unexpected twist. Opening Friday, May 22 at 7 p.m. and continuing at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 23 and Thursday, May 28; screening at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 24 and Wednesday, May 27 (OCAP).
“With a touch of Watership Down somewhere in the mix, this film, for some, may be off-putting. Actually, it makes for a sweet-natured family comedy, and a spiky and amusing cameo from Emma Thompson certainly doesn’t hurt.” – Peter Bradshaw, Guardian
"Frida Kahlo" - Exhibition On Screen - (NR; 90 minutes) - Our final Arts on Screen series installment. Directed by Ali Ray, this visually stunning documentary takes audiences beyond the familiar image of Frida Kahlo — beyond the bold flowers, vivid colors, and unmistakable brows — to uncover the woman behind the legend. Through her own letters, groundbreaking exhibition access, expert commentary, and an in-depth exploration of her work, the film reveals Kahlo’s passion, pain, resilience, and revolutionary spirit. Created in collaboration with leading scholars and those who knew her, the film also includes new material from the curators of the major 2026 exhibitions at Tate Modern and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Intimate, emotional, and visually rich, this documentary offers privileged access to Kahlo’s art, home, and studio while celebrating the unmatched creativity and enduring influence of a global icon. Join us for one show only on Saturday, May 23 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for members and $12 for non-members. Tickets may be purchased at the door, with doors opening at 1:30 p.m.
