'Ocean' screening at the Harbor Theater Feb. 7
Join us at Harbor Theater on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. for a free screening of "Ocean" (2025; 1 hour, 35 minutes) with David Attenborough sponsored by the Boothbay Region Climate Action Team.
"Ocean" takes viewers on a breathtaking journey, showing there is nowhere more vital for our survival, more full of life, wonder, or surprise, than the ocean. Attenborough, the celebrated broadcaster and filmmaker, reveals how his lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery.
Through spectacular sequences featuring coral reefs, kelp forests and the open ocean, Attenborough shares why a healthy ocean keeps the entire planet stable and flourishing. Stunning, immersive cinematography showcases the wonder of life under the seas and exposes the realities and challenges facing our ocean as never-before-seen, from destructive fishing techniques to mass coral reef bleaching. Yet the story is one of optimism, with Attenborough pointing to inspirational stories from around the world to deliver his greatest message: the ocean can recover to a glory beyond anything anyone alive has ever seen.
“As Attenborough says, knowledge is important for change, and films like this that highlight the plights of the ocean, and the far-reaching effects of losing the species within, will help move the conversations, and actions, in the right direction.” – Kat Halstead, Common Sense Media, June 10, 2025
The film and free popcorn are being offered to the community free of charge by the Boothbay Region Climate Action Team, who hope that everyone will take this opportunity to see and be inspired by this magnificent film on the big screen!
