The Morse High School Shipbuilders beat the Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) Seahawks, 78-50, in Unified basketball’s season opener, Wednesday, Feb. 11 in Bath. The Shipbuilders scored first and maintained the lead throughout the game. By halftime, the Shipbuilders were up 32-22 and their lead grew in second half of play.
Newcomer Caiden Farmer, a senior, tipped off the match for the Seahawks and scored an impressive six points in his debut game. Also new to the game this year, sophomore Makayla Fairservice, played a jaw-dropping game with 12 points in the paint, eight off rebounds as she outcompeted taller players. She had several assists, honing her skills, finding open players and connecting, as well as driving the baseline, settling into a power forward position. She scored the first basket for the Seahawks and her energy and drive to compete kept the Seahawks in the game during the first half, narrowing the lead several times.
Senior Chloe Joneth had an impressive opening game, scoring seven baskets for 14 points, maintaining last season’s small forward position. Sophomore Matthew Jackson is back on the court in an exciting way. He took advantage of a couple fast breaks for easy layups, though he prefers shooting between the top of the key and the three-point line; in all, 18 points, six off 3-pointers and one attempt from half court. Jackson missed about half the games last year due to illness, averaging about 14 points per game for the Seahawks when he’s on the court. Fans are excited to see if he will top his 24-point single game record from last year’s matchup with Maranacook. Seahawks are missing height this season as they will no doubt look to seniors Farmer and Anthony Angelico to assume center positions.
Team helpers Sarah Harris, Eleanor Marshall, Ronan Drage and Maddie Andreasen offered on-court assistance. The Seahawks are coached by Dennis Dacus, Tammy Blackman and Tanya Thibault. Bingham, Roak and Aiden coach the Shipbuilders.
Seahawks are light on schedule to date, having missed the first scheduled game against Hall-Dale for administrative reasons, with hopes of schedule additions and re-schedules soon to come.
Unified basketball is a community-level extension of Special Olympics Maine Unified Championship Club which promotes social inclusion, leadership and friendship for student-athletes with and without disabilities.
Lincoln Academy 81 Boothbay 76
The Lincoln Academy Eagles beat the Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) Seahawks, 81-76, in Unified basketball Thursday, Feb. 12 at Lincoln Academy. Seahawk Matthew Jackson scored first and dominated the boards, scoring 22 total points for the game. The game was competitive throughout, 36-34 Eagles at the half, then nudging out the win in the final minutes of play.
Seniors Chloe Joneth and Caiden Farmer each scored 12 points in the low post. Makayla Fairservice and Jackson were rebounding powerhouses, Fairservice scoring 16 points in the paint. Anthony Angelico scored eight points.
Fans were excited to see the return of players Brandon Seigars (six points) and Zander Blake (support) who are warming into their games. Seigars posted impressive 3-point shots in the 2025 season and Blake provides the team with much needed height. Jackson searched for his 3-point game but wasn’t able to find his groove. He adjusted by putting up solid numbers off the boards including many fast breaks and points off rebounds. His versatility as a player and his ability to adapt the game plan when needed are driving his success.
Eagles center Emmett Anderson was unstoppable, scoring from every spot on the court including the game’s only 3-pointer. Lucy Himes was aggressive and accurate, reminiscent of Muggsy Bouges. Eagles beat the Seahawks by two baskets.
Ronan Drage, the team’s go-to assistant, was spot on, offering defensive coaching on court. Moriah Smith and Zuriel Smith made debut appearances as team helpers. Missing from the game was coach Dennis Dacus. Tammy Blackman and Tanya Thibault filled the gap perfectly. The Eagles are coached by Morgan Brewer.
The Seahawks resume play after winter break at home against Morse Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 3:30.
