Three cheers
Congratulations to coach Jax (van der Veen) Hepburn – she recently got married – and her 2025 Boothbay Region High School field hockey team for winning their 10th game of the season. It is quite an accomplishment since it had only been done one other time (2017) in the program’s 50-year history. I was in high school when the program started in 1974 and have seen hundreds of games over the years. This year’s team’s success is special in that it features only three seniors, no juniors and the rest of the team consists of only sophomores and freshmen. Good luck the rest of the way, Seahawks.
Congratulations to all the winners and nominees in last week’s Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce’s Awards Night held at Bigelow Laboratories. These people and businesses are what make this region so exceptional and we are glad that the BHRCC honors them year after year.
Speaking of exceptional, thank you to the Boothbay region’s fire departments for their dedication and commitment to keeping residents safe. Saturday’s fire in Boothbay Harbor could have been a lot worse had the response not been immediate. Getting to a fire in the wee hours of the morning is tough, especially if you are a firefighter in the throes of sleep. Fire crews got the fire under control quickly and, taking into consideration the dry conditions, neighboring properties were spared any damage.
