Thank you Larry Brown
I’m just gonna come out and say it – Larry Brown has been a great addition to our community over the many years and, because it is Giving Tuesday while I write this, it only seems fitting because he has given his time and effort to so many causes.
After joining Boothbay Harbor Police Department from Lewiston PD and opening a bed and breakfast in East Boothbay with his wife, Marti Booth, Brown has helped bring notice to, done fundraising for, and been involved with causes of various types. I will probably forget some here but many know he is always looking to help boost community togetherness.
Boothbay Region Land Trust, Boothbay Region YMCA (Penguin Plunge, second grade swim program, Dolphin swim team, etc.), Boothbay Harbor schools and athletics (too many to list), Light It Up Committee (Sherman Field lights project) police department projects (bike safety, etc.), promoting individuals’ achievements through his “Bleacher Awards (for those who may have forgotten, when the Boothbay Region High School wooden bleachers were replaced a few years back, Officer Brown collected the wood and has worked with a friend to make plaques from the wood to honor local people and groups), Community Center’s 9-1-1 signs, volunteering to write articles for this newspaper … and much more.
He has helped the newspaper get moving on our digitizing project by talking to groups, spreading the word, asking for volunteers to scan the pages, and offering advice.
I am going to end it here because I am sure Larry isn’t done volunteering but thank you, Larry, for brightening our community and showing the way about community service.
