Charlotte Nutt to run for House District 48
Charlotte Nutt of Edgecomb announces candidacy for House District 48 (Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb, South Bristol, Southport, and Westport Island). Representative Holly Stover is serving her last term due to state term limits. The election will be on Nov. 3, 2026. Nutt will run as a Democrat.
"I am honored to represent the people I grew up with. I want to bring your ideas to Augusta," Nutt said.
Nutt grew up and lives in Edgecomb. Her father, David Nutt, is a retired boat builder, and her late mother, Judy Sandick, was a physician at St. Andrews and Miles Memorial Hospital. Growing up, Nutt played on the Boothbay field hockey team and swim team. She worked as deckhand on Schooner Eastwind and sailing instructor at the Boothbay Sea and Science Center. "These institutions were critical in shaping my appreciation for this peninsula and our way of life. I would truly not be the same without this community," Nutt said.
Her experiences growing up are reflected in her career. Nutt is a professional data and GIS (geographic imaging systems) consultant with a focus on creating resilience for Midcoast municipalities. She helps municipal leaders plan efforts in housing, transportation, economic development, and environmental sustainability. She says, "the best policies happen at the local level because only we know the culture and nuances of our communities. Even still, state and federal governments must be positioned to support the policies of our municipalities."
Nutt's work guides her legislative priorities. She believes that strengthening state support for municipalities is crucial to building resilience. Working waterfronts, attainable housing, climate resilience, and strong local economies all originate at the local level and are bolstered by state programs. Nutt is dedicated to protecting our communities and ways of life. She recognizes the political division in this country, but also sees common ground, especially in Maine. Nutt believes we all want secure housing, healthcare, and to balance work, family, and recreation. She looks forward to representing the coastal Maine way of life in Augusta.
Stay tuned for a campaign launch party in early January.
