Southport buying handicapped van parking sign
Southport Town Clerk Donna Climo is shopping for a new sign for the town hall parking lot. On June 25, selectmen directed her to find a sign which would comply with state parking regulations. "We've been informed the town needs a handicap van parking area sign," said Selectman Gerry Gamage. "We have a 'handicap' parking sign, but we need to provide a space large enough for a (van) side door and extractor." The new sign will read “handicapped vans parking area,” according to Gamage.
In other action, Paul Spurling sought advice regarding a potential purchase of a neighboring property. Selectmen also serve as the municipal property assessors, and Spurling wanted information about how much the potential purchase would cost in additional taxes. Gamage is a Maine Certified Property Assessor, and will inspect the property if Spurling decides to pursue the purchase.
Selectmen approved a town hall rental request. On Aug. 15, Southport Yacht Club will host its annual banquet from 6 to 9 p.m. Selectmen also tentatively approved a request to use the Southport school's parking lot for a fundraiser. Jennifer Auber requested to use the school parking lot for overflow parking. She is hosting a fundraiser Aug. 12 at her home. Gamage will check with the school officials about any possible scheduling conflicts. Selectmen meet next at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 2 in the town hall.
