Selectmen advise 'Write your congressman' if you're not getting mail
For over two weeks, certain segments of Boothbay have not received mail delivery which prompted two residents, on Dec. 10, to seek selectboard assistance. Kevin Bowler told selectmen she hasn't received mail for three weeks. Lucien Laurie is also experiencing intermittent mail delivery. The second time he went two weeks without mail, he contacted U.S. Congresswoman Chellie Pingree.
"She got back to me, and put me in contact with some U.S. postal official who told me 'It's not just (Boothbay). It's something happening all over the state'," he said.
Selectman Steve Lewis heard a state representative had contacted the Postmaster General. Upon hearing that, Selectman Chuck Cunningham advised residents to "write to their congressman because there is nothing we can do."
In other action, Bowler updated selectmen on a joint Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Veterans Memorial Garden project. The committee is seeking funding to pay architect fees and other costs. The committee is asking Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor to each contribute $3,750.
Boothbay selectmen voted, 4-0, to contribute the amount. Selectmen also directed Cunningham to sign a release deed for 414 River Road. Bryer reported the property was tax acquired and now the heirs are buying it for back taxes and all legal costs. Bryer said back taxes and legal expenses total $15,985.98.
Selectmen meet next at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 in the conference room.
