Select board write-in candidate for Edgecomb
Dear Editor:
Cara Gaffney has thrown her hat into the ring, running for the open seat on the Edgecomb Select Board.
You may know Cara from Seawick Candle Company, which has grown exponentially since she and Michael started it at their Edgecomb home in 2011. Or you may have seen her in Edgecomb, and then Boothbay, volunteering at events during their sons’ years at the Eddy School and BRHS. Or maybe when she was volunteering for the Botanical Gardens; or fundraising for Windjammers Days; or raising funds for a local family when they hit hard times.
Now Cara wants to channel that compassion and drive into building a prosperous future for Edgecomb. In her words, she is “eager to apply [her business] background in strategic planning and budgeting to help move … community initiatives forward.” Drawing on her years helping build Seawicks Candle, she has “manage[d] complex spreadsheets and logistics for our wholesale accounts, including large companies like L.L. Bean. On the public-facing side, [she enjoys] constantly meeting with customers at our Boothbay Harbor store. Engaging with people is actually my favorite part of the job, and I believe that experience with public relations and diplomacy translates directly to addressing the needs of our residents.”
Whether you complete your referendum ballot at the annual meeting Saturday, May 16 (from 1 to 7 p.m.) or by absentee ballot in the days leading up to the 16th, please consider filling in the space for a write-in Select Board candidate with her name, Cara Gaffney.
