Dennis J. Young
Dennis J. Young, 83, of Boothbay, Maine, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, at St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor, following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.
Dennis was born on Oct. 9, 1942, in Ellsworth, Maine, to Byron P. Young and Faith (Whittier) Holden. He grew up in Gouldsboro and attended local schools, graduating from Sumner High School in 1960. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Husson College in 1965.
On Christmas Day, 1965, Dennis married the love of his life, Rebecca Strout. Together they shared 60 years of marriage. After working for the State of Maine for a year, Dennis began his banking career with Augusta Federal Savings in 1966. He and Rebecca made their home in Augusta, where they raised their three children. Through dedication, leadership, and hard work, Dennis ultimately retired as president of Augusta Federal Savings in 2000.
In 2013, Dennis and Rebecca relocated to Boothbay to be closer to family. Throughout his life, Dennis embraced the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, and spending time at the family camp on Jones Pond in Gouldsboro. He treasured RV camping adventures with friends, wintering in Florida, and connecting with others as an avid amateur radio operator. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Dennis was deeply committed to serving his community. He was an active member of Rotary and the Elks, volunteered with Trek Across Maine, and participated in local amateur radio organizations.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rebecca Strout Young; his son, Charles Young and his wife, Shannon, of South China; his daughters, Amy Kemp and her husband, Doug, of Greenfield, Massachusetts, and Catherine Pinkham and her husband, Russell, of Boothbay; his grandchildren, Katelynn, Nicholas, Mason, and Gwendolyn; his great-grandchildren, Evren and Greyson; and his brother, Byron Young and his wife, Valerie, of Florida. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 11 at 2 p.m. at Beech Hill Cemetery, 304 Gouldsboro Road, Gouldsboro, Maine.
