Seahawks roll past Bulldogs
The Boothbay Region High School field hockey team got its eighth win of the season by defeating the Hall-Dale Bulldogs for the second time this season, 3-1, at Perkins Field Thursday afternoon.
Junior Moriah Smith, the team’s leading scorer, gave Boothbay a 1-0 lead with a goal at 2:06 of the first quarter.
Both teams picked up their offense in the second quarter with the Seahawks and Bulldogs each getting three penalty corner opportunities.
Boothbay extended its lead to 2-0 with 4:12 to play in the second quarter when sophomore Olivia Hardwick pushed the ball into an open goal after an assist from freshman Emma Doucette.
But just before the halftime horn sounded, the Bulldogs scored with 21 seconds to play on a goal by Avery Croll.
The Seahawks had several chances to score early in the third quarter but Bulldog goalie Haylie Stevens made some nice saves.
Junior Zuri Smith gave Boothbay its final goal pushing the ball into the left corner of the goal with 4:07 to play in the third.
Boothbay’s defense didn’t allow another shot on goal in the fourth quarter as the team improved to 8-4 and, as of Friday morning, moved into fourth place in Class C South.
The team’s final two games of the regular season will be at home against Oak Hill (rescheduled twice due to rain) on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 19 at 3:30 p.m. against Telstar. Oak Hill is 4-8 and Telstar is 1-12.
