Painter Mark Lazzari to exhibit Jan. 23-26
Paintings by artist Mark Lazzari of Damariscotta will be on display at the Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop from Friday, January 23 through Sunday, Jan. 26.
The exhibit is part of the Book Shop Artists series. Several local artists are members of the shop’s all-volunteer staff. This series gives them an opportunity to show and sell their work at the shop.
The book shop is located at 17 Backstreet Landing in downtown Damariscotta and is open every day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lazzari plans to be at the shop on Saturday morning and early Sunday afternoon.
Lazzari was originally a pastel artist and studied with Kathleen Galligan, local pastelist. Now he works mostly with acrylics.
“I like to say Maine is my muse,” he says. “I love painting outdoors around the state to try to capture the interplay of light and shadow on the land. I enjoy the challenge of painting different scenery on my travels as well. There is so much beauty in the changing skies and land forms.”
Lazzari’s work can be seen at the Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset and, in recent years, in art shows and galleries from Mt. Desert to Kennebunkport. His studio is on Pleasant St. in Damariscotta.
He has been a volunteer shopkeeper at the book shop since 2018.
The Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop is a major source of funding for Skidompha Public Library. All items are donated, all staff members are volunteers, and every purchase helps to support the library’s programs and collections. Volunteers welcome donations whenever the shop is open.
