Mountain Valley outslugs Boothbay, 20-8, on baseball diamond
Boothbay baseball's winning streak ended at one after Mountain Valley scored a 20-8 victory in seven innings April 29 at Sherman Field. Class B Mountain Valley (3-1) started strong and posted 10 runs in the first three innings. The Falcons scored three in the first, three more in the second and four in the fourth, building a 10-2 lead.
The Falcons' offense scored 20 runs on 10 hits, and was aided by five Boothbay fielding errors. Seahawk starting pitcher Les White pitched three innings, allowed three hits, four earned runs, walked eight and struck out four. Avery Fowlie relieved him, and pitched three innings. He allowed four hits, four runs (all earned), walked three and struck out one. Blake Durgan pitched the seventh, and allowed three hits, six runs (four earned), four walks and struck out two.
Boothbay's offense scored eight runs on five hits. Mountain Valley made three defensive errors. The Seahawks scored two in the first, one each in the fourth and fifth innings and made a strong late inning rally with four in the seventh. Falcon pitching walked nine batters and struck out 10.
Two of Boothbay's five hits were for extra bases. Aiden Locke doubled and singled. Casey Phelps homered and singled. White had a single. Boothbay is now 1-3. On May 1, the Boothbay-Madison game was postponed.
