Community members will perform with Millennium Magic June 6
If you caught the recent feature on local singer Laura Fassett and her chorus Millennium Magic, you already know that barbershop and a cappella singing are alive and thriving. Now it's time to talk about the show itself, and what promises to be one of the most exciting evenings of music Boothbay has seen in some time.
Mark your calendars: Saturday, June 6 at 7 p.m. when Millennium Magic takes the stage at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor, 125 Townsend Ave., for its 4th annual Boothbay performance. The evening will feature modern a cappella arrangements of hits from Queen, Michael Bublé, Van Morrison and more, alongside both classic and not-so-classic barbershop, a style that, once you hear it done well, tends to stop you in your tracks.
Millennium Magic is bringing something special to the stage this year. The chorus recently competed at their regional competition under the banner of Sweet Adelines International and returned home with first place, and a world record. The group scored higher than any chorus of their size has ever scored at a regional competition in the organization's history. That's the caliber of musicianship coming to our community church stage on June 6th! Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and children under 12. They're available online at millenniummagic.org or by scanning the QR code in this article.
The Workshop: Community voices take the stage
What makes this year's performance particularly special is who will be joining Millennium Magic on stage. The chorus has welcomed several participants from our local community into a workshop designed to introduce women and girls (ages 12 and up with treble voices) to the barbershop and a cappella style of singing. Workshop participants will learn alongside the chorus and then perform with them during the June 6 concert, a truly unique opportunity to experience live performance from the inside.
There is still a small window of time to sign up, registration closes May 31. The workshop runs Thursday, June 4 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, June 6 from 4:30 to 6 p.m., both at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor. Participants receive learning tracks and sheet music digitally as soon as they register. Full details and sign-up are available at millenniummagic.org/boothbay or by scanning the QR code in this article.
Come out and sing with us or just sit back and enjoy! Whether you're joining the workshop, coming to cheer on a neighbor, or simply in the mood for an exceptional night of music, this is a performance worth your Saturday evening. Millennium Magic has made a tradition of sharing their passion with the Boothbay community, and this year, fresh off a record-breaking win, they're bringing everything they've got.
