Cruiser a total loss following April 21 accident on Route 1
On April 21, a Lincoln County cruiser was involved in an accident on Route One resulting in the vehicle's being totaled. During the May 19 commissioners' meeting, Deputy Sheriff Rand Maker explained how the accident happened.
He told commissioners the cruiser was "rear-ended" in front of the courthouse. "The deputy was stopped waiting to turn when the lady traveling south looked down at her GPS, and ran into the cruiser," he said.
Commissioners approved transferring the damaged vehicle. The insurance company offered $15,789.13 for the 2024 Ford Explorer. Maker reported the vehicle had over 134,000 miles.
In other action, commissioners approved a contract renewal with the Maine Behavioral Health Agreement for a Recovery Coach and Substance Use Disorder counseling. This is part of the department's diversion program, said Maker. The agreement is for one year, from July 1 2026 to June 30, 2027. The county will pay MaineHealth $221,844, which is an 11% increase.
The Communications Center has hired three new emergency communications officers. Elias Page and Jahmiyo Gillis will start May 21. Garrett French will start June 1.
Commissioners approved a contract amendment with the Maine Office of Community Affairs to host a shoreline workshop. Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission will host the workshop sponsored by the Department of Environmental Protection, Maine Coastal Program and Maine Municipal Assistance Program. "We will help them finding a venue and coordinate and facilitate the program," LCRPC Executive Director Emily Rabbe said. "The second part is for funding outreach to engage regional partners, municipalities and community members to work on coastal issues."
When Rabbe attends the National Association of Regional Councils annual conference next month, she will be a presenter. She will also accept an award on behalf of LCRPC. The National Association of Regional Councils Conference will award Lincoln County a rural regional planning award. The conference is June 7-9 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The commissioners meet next at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 2 in the courthouse.
