If you are a cat lover living here in Midcoast, chances are you’ve heard of Sunshine Larry. Larry can be best described as the grumpy faced community cat and feline Mayor of Bath. He has his own Facebook Page with roughly 4,000 followers! What more and more people here in Boothbay Harbor are discovering is we have our own community cat Mayor: The “Little Man” about town.

The Little Man has several known aliases including Tiger, Moxie and Jingles. His history is unknown. He was wandering nights surviving outdoors; even through the cold winter. Fortunately, he was easy to capture in a Have A Heart trap and was taken to Midcoast Humane for healthcare. Today, Tiger (aka Little Man) is neutered, vaccinated, routinely treated for fleas, ticks, etc. He has caregivers and a safe place to hunker down. 

Despite all the care and two daily feedings of gourmet cat food, Tiger is feral at heart and wants to patrol town. He can be seen sporting a reflective breakaway collar with a bell and AirTag. The tag enables his caregivers to track where he goes. His favorite haunts are on West and Sherman streets, although he’s traveled as far as Lakeview Drive and Andrea Lane. There have been a few visits to the Opera House and the fire pit at Greenleaf Inn.

Little Man is a friendly guy and likes pets but, as with any cat, he will swat or nip if you pet the wrong spots! When he wants to play, watch out! Handle with care.

Tiger likes to sleep the day away on a cozy cushion. He’s a very sound sleeper and assumes the most humorously dramatic positions. In his down time he hangs with his feral bestie, Blakeley, the tuxedo (aka Queen, Broccoli) who was featured in the Register’s story about community cats back on April 30 of this year. She also sports a collar with a bell and AirTag. 

Whether you like cats or not, feral cats are part of our community. For their health and safety and that of community residents, it is best to Trap, Neuter and Return them to their territory. This helps to control the population and minimize any negative impact a feral community may have.
