Honoring our veterans
Dear Editor:
I am so late to the game with this letter but feel like maybe I stumbled upon this amazing BRTV slideshow at exactly the right time because Veterans Day is tomorrow.
All of my children and their significant others came to see me this summer and every one of them said, “Your towns are so amazing. The banners celebrating your veterans are just wonderful. They make us think and remember and give thanks for all these people who served our country. I wish the rest of the country would to this.”
And then this morning after I finished watching my church service from home, suddenly the veteransscroll started to appear on my screen. I saw friends and smiled at how they looked in our younger years, I saw multiple members of the same family, I saw men and women that I had not known that had been part of our military. I did not move for the 40 minutes that it ran. Every 5-second portrait was a chance to say thank you to those I know (and I hope I remember to do so the next time I see them), those that I am friends with the children of, and those that I got to just meet for the first time.
I encourage you to sit down as part of your Veterans Day remembrance, to go to the BRTV (channel 7 on Spectrum) at 10:43 a.m. or 4:10 p.m. on Tuesday. Or go to the BRTV website schedule to find a time that works for you.
Trust me, you are, as I am, going to learn so much, and be grateful for all my wonderful neighbors.
