Harbor Theater nominated for best movie theater
One of Down East magazine’s favorite annual issues is the Best of Maine edition. This year, our local Harbor Theater has been nominated and is a finalist in the Best Movie Theater category. The winners will be published in the September 2026 issue of Down East. To get us there, you need to vote now!
Voting officially opens on May 12 and continues through June 12, and we would be incredibly grateful for your support as we celebrate community cinema here in Boothbay Harbor.
As a local nonprofit cinema, Harbor Theater demonstrates its commitment to community daily. While the theater’s programming features new releases of blockbusters and award-winning movies, it also includes films from all genres significant to our population – documentaries, classics, arts and music, educational and international offerings. But what seems to endear Harbor Theater most to its audience are its special events. From Free Family Films to Galas for special film releases to Food and Film evenings to holiday specials, and free Members Only events, Harbor Theater engages its audience members like family. And anyone will tell you that the popcorn and real butter are the best anywhere!
Attending a Harbor Theater event is sometimes a surprise to newcomers. The camaraderie, banter, laughs, and conversations among audience members and staff make the experience more like a party than a commercial transaction. Locals never seem shy to express their opinions about the movie they are seeing or to make special requests, which are more often than not accommodated. Let all of Maine (and readers around the country) know that your local movie house is one of the best anywhere!
Thank you for supporting Harbor Theater, local arts, and nonprofit community programming. Your encouragement and enthusiasm make everything we do possible. Voting is simple, with step-by-step instructions available when you follow the link: VOTE NOW.
Harbor Theater is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that receives fully 50% of its operating funds from the support of community individuals, businesses, and organizations. For more information, visit us at boothbaycinema.org.
