Janet Chesebro
Janet Chesebro, born Dec. 9, 1943, in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, died May 2, 2026. She was the daughter of James A. Chesebro and Lois Chadbourne Chesebro.
Janet grew up in Boothbay Harbor and attended Boothbay Region High School from 1958 to 1962. She continued her education at the University of Maine at Farmington from 1962 to 1964 and later attended business school from 1964 to 1965.
Throughout her working life, Janet was known for her dependability and dedication. She was employed by Travelers Insurance Company from 1969 to 1970, Blue Rock Industries from 1970 to 1980, Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Northern New England from 1980 to 1989, and Portland Welding from 1989 until her retirement in 2008. She also served as the house manager for her apartment building, a role that reflected her responsible and caring nature.
Janet was a devoted American Red Cross blood donor, giving generously throughout her life. She made an extraordinary 175 donations and was honored by the Red Cross at a special dinner for donating platelets through apheresis 100 times, in addition to 75 blood donations.
Janet’s family would like to thank the staff at Hill House and the hospice workers for their extraordinary care of Janet.
She enjoyed season tickets to the Portland Symphony Orchestra and supported the organization through donations. She also was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and knew all the players by name. Janet also had many hobbies, including knitting, crocheting, ceramics, and making buttercrunch candy from her mother’s recipe, which she lovingly gave as Christmas gifts.
Janet was predeceased by her parents; grandparents; aunts; uncles; and cousins.
She is survived by her sister, Rebecca Chesebro Rice of Bath; nephew, James Rice of Bath; great-nephew, Nathaniel Rice of Georgia; cousin, Jane Faulkner of South Harpswell; cousin, David Chadbourne of Wells Beach; and cousin, Robert Chesebro of Portland.
A graveside service for Janet will be held on Wednesday, May 13 at 11 a.m. at Oceanview Cemetery, located off Country Club Road in Boothbay. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend.
