Grown-ups! ‘Unearth a Story’ during the Summer Read
Join us for our second annual Summer Read! This exciting community-wide summer book club encourages the Boothbay region to read the same book during the summer, then gather to discuss it with other community members.
This year, we are digging into our Summer Reading theme “Unearth a Story.” While our children’s Summer Reading program will focus on archaeology and paleontology, our adults will focus on unearthing the deeper meanings from history and stories.
Our Summer Read pick for 2026 is “North Woods” by Daniel Mason. The book unearths the story of the many inhabitants of a New England home throughout its 400-year history. The author uses beautiful prose and engrossing narratives to shine light on the diverse cast of residents both human and non.
“North Woods” is a national bestseller, was a finalist National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction, and was chosen as a New York Times Top Ten Book of the Year in 2023.
Book discussions will be held at Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library on Wednesday, July 22 at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 8 at 1:30 p.m., and at Southport Memorial Library on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 11 a.m. For more information about the book and discussions visit bbhlibrary.org/thesummerread.
Grab a copy of the book from BHML starting Thursday, June 11 (or check out the ebook or audiobook online through Cloudlibrary). Then, attend the book group of your choice to discuss the title with fellow readers. We hope to see you!
