Great response for winter clothing donations
Dear Editor:
On Tuesday morning, Nov. 4, the Boothbay Register published our plea for winter clothing as the lead article in The Morning Catch. By that afternoon, bags filled with coats, jackets, sweaters—in other words, all things winter—began arriving at our Thrift Shop. And the outpouring of donations has not slowed down. We have received hundreds of coats; beautiful, light and heavy, name brand outerwear, that are flying off the coat racks almost as quickly as they are coming in. We knew that this generous community would respond to our request, but we had no idea just how many of you would. We are more grateful than you will ever know. Winter is always a hard time, but with food insecurity now a real and enormous crisis, making sure that we can play a role in keeping our neighbors warm is a true gift, thanks to you.
So, once again, thank all of you for your continuing support of our Thrift Shop, both in donations and purchases. Our mission is to provide a store where anyone can find affordable clothing, household items, and treasures. And those purchases allow the St. Andrews Auxiliary to support student scholarships and vital medical purchases for our local healthcare facilities. Donations are accepted during store hours by simply coming in and handing them to any volunteer. You help us make a real difference in our community both through the money we are able to raise through your donations and as a source of very affordable clothing and household items for those who need and want them.
