Going... going...Ticket sales are going fast for July 1 movie musical '1776'
On Wednesday, July 1, the Community Center will welcome guests to the Harbor Theater for a special celebration of American history. On that same date in 1776, the Continental Congress took up the vote on the resolution for American independence. To mark the 250th anniversary, the Community Center is hosting the much-loved movie musical "1776" with the Tony award-winning cast repeating their performances from the original Broadway show.
The celebration begins at 6:00 p.m. Caterer Social Graze Charcuterie is creating an elegant and unique visual feast with a grazing table of charcuterie, cheeses, berries, veggies, sides, hummus, breads, assorted desserts and Patriot Punch. Costumed members of Colonial Maine Living History Association will be there to help celebrate 250 years of American independence.
The movie musical at 6:30 p.m. shows the challenges of creating a new nation and tells the story with humor and drama. The modern songs were written from historical documents and reveal the founding fathers as surprisingly human.
Nominated by the American Film Institute as one of the "Greatest Movie Musicals," reviews said, "It is warm with a life of its own; it is funny, it is moving," and "The perfect movie for everyone, no exceptions of any kind for any reason."
Tickets are $25 and available at the Community Center, online, and at the door while they last. All proceeds support Community Center programs and activities. For more information, call 633-9876.
