Frank 106.9 FM to broadcast high school tournament basketball
106.9 FRANK FM, WBQX will broadcast local high school tournament basketball for a 16th straight February beginning Wednesday Feb. 11 with the Lincoln Academy at Oceanside Boys first round Prelim game.
Veteran broadcaster Don Shields will again lead the coverage and will be joined by Terry Spear, Chris Seavey and Jon Duke for all the post season actions involving Oceanside, Medomak Valley, Camden Hills, Lincoln Academy, Vinalhaven, North Haven, Islesboro. Boothbay, Wiscasset and Mount View high schools. Shields, who is also the voice of the University of Maine women’s basketball team, has been the voice of Midcoast Maine high school basketball since 1985. Spear and Seavey bring decades of on-air experience to the broadcasts while Duke is making his second year as part of the tourney team.
106.9 FRANK FM will not only broadcast the high school basketball tournament games at the Portland Expo and Augusta Civic Center, but the station will also stream the audio for each game on their website 1069FRANK.com. A complete schedule of the games can also be found at 1069FRANK.com. In the case that we have two games involving local teams being played at the same time in different venues, one game will be moved to 105.5 FM, The WAVE, WBYA.
Each of the last three years, 106.9 FRANK FM’s high school basketball coverage has been honored by the Maine Association of Broadcasters for Play-by-Play excellence.
