Dirigo's Luczynski's 50 points lead Cougars to easy victory
Abby Luczynski did something the 70-year-old Porter Memorial Gymnasium has perhaps never seen Tuesday night, Jan. 27.
Luczynski, a junior guard for the Dirigo Cougars, scored 50 points in the visitors’ convincing 103-46 win over the Boothbay Region Seahawks. And she did it in about three and a half quarters of play.
Luczynski had 12 field goals, six 3-pointers and was 8-of-10 from the foul line in her memorable night.
The Cougars had little problem finding open shots as their unselfish, patient and fast-breaking offense produced 22 first-quarter points with Luczynski scoring 17 of those.
The visitors held a 38-23 lead at halftime and blew the game open in the second half, scoring 63 points, 30 in the third and 33 in the fourth.
Dirigo, a Class C South team, improved to 8-6 with the win. They are seeded in sixth place headed into the final week of the regular season.
Boothbay, led by Tatum French’s 21 points, fell to 5-11 with the loss and is seeded seventh in Class D South.
French and fellow senior co-captain Sophie White (five points) were recognized before their final home game on Senior Night.
Also scoring in double figures for the Cougars were Emma Witas with 19 points and Haleigh Hutchins with 10.
Besides French and White, other scorers for Boothbay were Eleanor Erwin and Aryana Gray with six points each, Lilly Brown with four, and Arabella Hodgdon and Addie Barter with two points each.
The Seahawks are scheduled to finish the regular season with a game at Mt. Abram on Thursday, Jan. 29 and a game at Winthrop on Feb. 3.
