Current paintings by Jack Silverio through July 27
Studio 53 is presenting current paintings of Jack Silverio for the month of July. Twenty-two paintings are displayed in the front two rooms of the gallery.
An artist’s reception will take place on Friday, July 11 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Jack is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design as are many of the artists associated with STUDIO 53. He majored in architecture and practiced in Maine for 40 years designing homes. He is also the architect of St. Columba’s Episcopal Church on Emery Lane in Boothbay Harbor. He has been painting throughout his life and for the last twelve years has been painting and making sculpture full time in his Lincolnville studio.
Jack’s current work involves geometric studies focused on proportions involving the Fibonacci Series and the Golden Ratio. Forms are often stacked or composed according to a system of diminishing proportions. These proportions have been used in art and architecture for thousands of years and are also found in nature, the human body and throughout the universe.
The present work is done with a French sign painter’s vinyl paint called Flashe. Thin layers are painted over a thick coat of gesso which is applied to an aluminum composite panel. Whether in paintings, sculpture or architecture Jack has been searching for qualities which are quiet and harmonious and express a certain sense of radiance.
Jack's show runs through July 27.
Studio 53 is at 53 Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor. It is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Owners are Terry Seaman and Heidi Seidelhuber. (207) 633-2755.
