RePower Wiscasset addresses commissioners
RePower Wiscasset has a big idea and wants the Lincoln County Commissioners to support it. On Oct. 21, Peter Arnold represented Repower Wiscasset and addressed its hopes regarding a project that would provide geothermal energy, potentially at the town-owned land on Old Ferry Road opposite the former Maine Yankee nuclear power plant.
Repower Wiscasset has identified the Old Ferry Road property as a strong location for a geothermal energy project potentially generating as much electricity as Maine Yankee did, according to Arnold.
Arnold is a Damariscotta resident. Commissioners did not comment on the potential project.
In other action, commissioners approved a $2,200 facility use agreement contract with Camp Kieve and Camp Wavus to host an October alternative sentencing program. Sheriff Todd Brackett reported camp attendees will perform community service during the days and receive counseling at night. "In fact, I think they're there right now cleaning brush at the recycling center, and later in the week, they work on projects at the camps," he said during his sheriff's report to commissioners.
Commissioners approved using $22,304.02 from a Fiscal Year 22 Homeland Security Grant to purchase radio equipment for the Blinn Hill Tower in Dresden. Lincoln County rents the tower and already uses it for local emergency management agency and public safety communication channels. County Administrator Carrie Kipfer said grant funds would provide fire and law enforcement radio communication equipment on the tower.
Commissioners approved the $65,082 Fiscal Year 27 unorganized territory budget. Kipfer reported the majority of funding would address maintenance of Gore Road which is .9 mile long. Commissioners will now send the proposed budget to the Maine Legislature for final approval.
Commissioners meet next at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4 in the courthouse.
