Concert fundraiser held for Veggies to Table
A spirited crowd on Boothbay Harbor’s Mt. Pisgah gathered at the historic boat cabins “La Merida” a fine summer Sunday afternoon to enjoy wine, cheeses and the music and lyrics of singer-songwriter John Shindler. The event raised money for Veggies to Table, a 30-acre organic farm that donates 100 percent of their vegetables and cut flowers to over two dozen local community food banks.
Erica Berman, founder of Veggies to Table, expressed her gratitude to hosts Cliff Thaell and Georjean Machulis of La Merida. “Cliff and Georjean were delighted to help us in our mission to reduce hunger here in Lincoln County.”
“Fresh vegetables are a nutritional requirement for healthy living,” said Berman, “and the flowers bring out smiles and a bit of joy to many people in need.”
Georjean told the crowd, “We are grateful to share our home in this old cabin and help to alleviate the crisis of food insecurity here in Lincoln County. Your generosity helps build trust and community. Our world needs that now more than ever!”
Cliff added, “We’ve been having a super good time raising much needed money to help our neighbors in need. I am going to go out on a limb and declare that today’s party is the first annual Veggies to Table House Concert and Fundraiser.”
As the word got out about the upcoming benefit, area businesses leaped into action to provide support! Sponsors included Pinkham’s Gourmet Market, Hannaford/Boothbay Harbor, Villard Studio, Nathan’s Pharmacy and Bristol vintner, Chemin des Vins.
It was a perfect day, as Cliff Thaell and volunteer Tili Pieper led the call for door prizes. Cliff called out the first prize, a brand new 2022 Tesla, then added, “just kidding.” Guests were nevertheless thrilled to hear their lucky numbers called. Community spirit abounded. Winners were awarded gift certificates from Water Street Kitchen and Café, Treats of Maine from Wiscasset, Woodsong Market and Café and Blanchard Creamery in Edgecomb, and Dolphin Mini Golf and Bet’s Fish Fry in Boothbay, Farm 23 in Boothbay Harbor, and Arkeo Farms in Sydney.
