Community Center needs volunteers
Dear Editor:
The Boothbay Region Community Center is proud to provide respite from loneliness and social isolation and we are happy to offer a full schedule of activities for residents of all ages. But we are feeling some growing pains and need more volunteers.
Our People Helping People program needs drivers to serve a growing list of clients. We generally provide transportation to the grocery store and to medical appointments on the peninsula. Volunteers drive as frequently and on a schedule as they are able.
We would like to increase the hours of the Community Center from four hours, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to six hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Doing so will require more volunteers to greet people, make coffee, and generally serve as "congenial hosts." If you can spare anywhere from two to four hours a week, it would be greatly appreciated.
We need help to keep the Community Center thriving and to serve more people. This is an opportunity to pay it forward.
Being the "heart of the community" is about helping one another.
Thank you in advance. Your time is appreciated.

President, Community Center
