Celebrating Christmas together
Dear Editor:
The annual Christmas community dinner held at the American Legion hall served approximately 135 people on Christmas day. Despite snow-covered roads, many enjoyed the free meal and festive environment, with most people staying an hour or more appreciating the company of friends or new acquaintances. Numerous individuals commented on the excellent quality of the food and the smiles of those who served them. Ham, turkey, pork, and beef were available choices, along with all the “fixings,” topped off with many pie choices, punch and coffee.
Thank you to all those who donated and/or cooked food ahead of time, who helped to promote the event, who helped to set up and then clean up {especially the young people}, who served those in attendance, and to those who spent many hours preparing/cooking the food on Christmas day. Many hands are necessary to put on a first-class dinner, and that certainly was the case again this year, as volunteers joyfully participated in giving this Christmas blessing to others.
A special thanks to those on the planning committee, who planned and organized the dinner in the months leading up to Christmas. Many thanks also go to those who donated food or helped in other ways, especially our local businesses: the Boothbay Register, Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library, Pinkham’s Gourmet Market, House of Pizza, the Tugboat Restaurant, Shaw’s Supermarket, the YMCA, Harbor Theater, and BRTV. We look forward to next year!
