Car drives through Boothbay Harbor Walgreens
The driver of a 2024 BMW X5 drove through the Boothbay Harbor Walgreens store Sept. 22. The accident, which occurred a little after noon, left a hole in the building.
First responders with the Boothbay Harbor Fire Department, Boothbay Harbor Police Department, and the Boothbay Region Ambulance showed up shortly after. According to Fire Department Chief Nick Upham, the driver left in an ambulance, but she was likely unhurt. He said workers inside the building were also uninjured because they had moved away from the point of impact shortly before the incident.
Upham said there was no indication that the driver was under the influence.
In a release from Police Chief Doug Snyder Monday afternoon, the driver of the car was Carla Erickson-Sewall, 54. Snyder said Sewall and all other individuals in the Walgreens had safely evacuated the premises. The incident is currently under investigation.
The Boothbay Region Ambulance Services evaluated three individuals at the scene, with one person being transported to the hospital for minor injuries.
“I want to express my gratitude to the police officers, the Boothbay Harbor Fire Department, the ambulance service, and the staff at Walgreens for their efforts in ensuring that this incident was managed as safely as possible,” said Snyder.
