Courtesy of Chris LibertiOn Feb. 14, members of the Boothbay Region High School robotics team traveled to Bangor to compete with 31 teams from 12 schools for the final qualifying tournament in the 25-26 Vex Robotics Competition Push Back Season. Three of our four teams were able to attend, and all had their best showing of the season.
The Nautilus (Zuri Smith, Elijah Smith, Moriah Smith, Sam Ware and Maggie Curtis) finished the qualifiers ranked in 5th before being knocked out in the semifinal match. They were able to earn 2nd place with their skills scores in the event, and secured the 13th rank in the state among the 68 ranked teams in the state.
The Hardware Store (Joel Felton, Logan Bourne, Brady Baldwin and Nathan Percival) finished the qualifiers ranked 11th, but were eliminated in the first round of the afternoon.
PopKlop (Jayden Orne, Mathew Scarborough and Zander Blake) finished the day ranked 22nd and were able to advance to the quarterfinals.
Veteran team Crush Depth Crew (Afton Warren-Burdin, Kolton Campbell and Lysander LeFevre) were unable to compete based on their skills ranking.
The Nautilus earned a spot at the state championship in South Portland on March 7 and we are looking forward to a strong finish to the season.
