BRHS Class of 2025 holds Fishermen’s Festival Field Day

Friday, May 30, Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) Class of 2025 gathered for one of the last times before graduation to celebrate Fishermen's Festival Field Day, concluding Days of May festivities. Students began the morning with Grand March practice led by Guidance Counselor Leanne Burnham and Dean of Students Allan Crocker before kicking off field day with fun and games in the gymnasium.
Seniors raced to grab blue and gold tutus before pairing up to play Last Word, a timed turn-taking game with a photo diary of losers. Emcee Coach Dennis Dacus then led the seniors through his classic and favorite, the Rock, Paper, Scissors Championship pyramid-style tournament, which has students advance or recede based on winning or losing two-person matchups of the well-known hand game. Like a boss, Hannah Hills dominated the competition with 11 points. Clayton Splaine was second with nine.
This year’s Group Pictionary competition was fierce. Three teams, divided by homeroom, drew their way through prompts such as Michael Jackson, Looney Tunes, Fruit Loops and Mr. Cherry. True to his athletic code, Eddie Carpenter jumped out with the first points of the game, but the matchup ended in a three-way tie, causing a sudden death final round, won by Team Mr. Cherry. Students signed their names to their Pictionary boards to present to their homeroom teachers.
Seniors tie-dyed class of 2025 T-shirts and ate pizza before the outdoor games on Sherman Field. The chalk-infused tug-of-war, often more about dousing others with colorful chalk sprays than winning a tug-of-war, saw Team Carpenter beating Team Baldwin before losing to champions Team Pottle.
The rainbow-colored seniors ended the day with the Fisherman’s Festival Cod Fish Relay. Three teams took turns donning fishing gear and holding a codfish in each hand as they ran around a baseball diamond. The first round of the relay was tight, with runners from all three teams inches away from the next, but wardrobe complications in round two allowed Manon Lewis’ homeroom to walk away with an easy victory.
The class and school would like to thank First Nations Bank, BBH Apparel, Pier One Pizza and Mill Cove Lobster Pound for sponsoring Fisherman’s Festival Field Day.
