BRHS celebrates Homecoming 2025, seniors dominate

Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) celebrated Homecoming 2025 Sep. 29 – Oct. 4. Festivities included a series of grade-level competitions, community activities, a pep rally, a parade, sports games (field hockey and football) and concluded with the Homecoming dance in Southport’s town hall. The Class of 2026 dominated the week, winning three of the four competitions.
Hallway and parade float themes were chosen by the classes: freshmen, Halloween; sophomores, Race Day; juniors, Hollywood; seniors, Under the Sea-niors. With hallways decorated and school spirit high, the annual open house was held Wednesday night as well as organizational meetings for Project Graduation and a seminar for senior parents hosted by the guidance department on preparing students for entering college and the workforce.
Throughout Homecoming week, students participated in themed dress-up days: pajama day, athletes v. mathletes, favorite fictional character, hallway theme and pink-out. Freshmen placed first in the dress-up days competition, the only challenge preventing the seniors from having a clean sweep. Sophomores, seniors and juniors followed.
“It’s going to be really tough this year to decide a (hallway) winner because all four hallways look amazing,” said Suzanne Sherman, BRHS guidance secretary. The win went to the seniors. Juniors, sophomores and freshmen placed second through fourth.
Thursday night’s Homecoming parade made a loop from the high school and through the harbor, with a brief pause in front of Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce for judging. “So much student participation!! Their collaboration and kindness to one another are remarkable!” said art teacher Manon Lewis in a social media post. “It’s the most I’ve seen the classes helping each other,” said Dr. Tricia Campbell, principal. “If one class needed help, other classes pitched in. If one class had extra supplies, they offered them to the other classes. The students have once again outdone themselves with their efforts and enthusiasm!”
Judges voted the senior float best, followed by the sophomores, freshmen and juniors. The post-parade bonfire was canceled by local fire officials, based on reports from the Maine Forest Service, due to conditions.
