BRES promotes 42 eighth graders

KEVIN BURNHAM/Boothbay RegisterForty-two Boothbay Region Middle School eighth graders are moving on to ninth grade following the school’s annual Eighth Grade Promotion ceremony held Tuesday, June 16.
The event featured the awarding of several academic awards, student speeches, musical presentations and the presentation of the first-ever Webster Beal Music Scholarship. Sarah Moran was the recipient.
After the academic awards were handed out, the eighth graders were presented promotion certificates by Assistant Principal Kim Dionne as they were individually introduced by Guidance Counselor Lacey Phelps.
Following the 90-minute ceremony, students piled into vehicles for a celebratory car parade around town, accompanied by police, fire and ambulance vehicles.
Academic awards are named after longtime former Superintendent of Schools Harold B. Clifford and each student receiving an award was given a coin which features an engraving of Clifford.
State Rep. Holly Stover and State Sen. Cameron Reny presented the Secretary of State Distinguished Citizen Award to Elise Wilson.
The Academic Excellence Award for the top student in the class was presented by eighth grade teachers Elizabeth Tilton, Cordelia Chase, Zachary Gray and Alyssa Mitchell to Isaac Meyers.
The promoted BRES eighth graders included: Madilyn Alley, Savannah Alley, Ashlynn Andrews, James Barter, Mayson Blake, Harrison Clark, Ariel Doan, Emma Doucette, Samantha Doucette, Logan Ficht, Henry Fulton, Cynthia Gauthier, Logan Harjula, Meabh Hennessy, Jilian Higgins, Benjamin A. Hodgdon, Benjamin C. Hodgdon, Skyler Hyson, Mabel Kaler, William Lassen, Abigail LockeSmith, Izabella LockeSmith, Cali McDuff, Isaac Meyers, Blythe Miller, Sarah Moran, Maksim Morin, Ellie Morton, Pauline Nadeau-Miller, Myer Phelps, Astrid Pochee, Landyn Rego, Eben Robinson, Corinne Rogers, Emma Scott, Curtis Spofford, Jimiah Stetson, Dustin Thiboutot, Kayla Watts, Asher Whitt, Elijah Whittaker and Elise Wilson.
