Boothbay had no problem defeating Waterville Sept. 18 in 8-man football action as the Seahawks won, 30-8, at Sherman Field, but Coach Ed Crocker saw a lot of mistakes in his team's performance. Penalties were a major reason for his criticism as the Seahawks had three touchdown runs of over 40-plus yards called back due to penalties.

"Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the victory, but penalty after penalty really cost us," Crocker said. "We need to be more disciplined on offense or it will end up hurting us later in the season."

Boothbay is now 1-1. Waterville falls to 1-2. In their first game, Bucksport made Boothbay pay for their mistakes and missed tackles in a 26-0 loss. Boothbay learned from their first game and played significantly better against Waterville, but far from perfect. Running back Peyton Barter scored the Seahawks' first two touchdowns in the first quarter with penalty-free runs of 34 and 60 yards.

Barter credited the defense for the team's win. "A win is a win, but we need to play better. Too many mistakes on offense tonight. Our defense played better. We tackled lower which made a big difference. Against Bucksport, we tackled too high, and they just bounced off us and kept running," Barter said.

Boothbay travels to Hiram Sept. 25 for a game against Sacopee Valley (0-3). Sacopee's record may be misleading as the Hawks opened the season with a difficult schedule: Old Orchard Beach, Maranacook and Gray-New Gloucester. "I'm looking forward to playing Sacopee Valley. It's usually a tough competitive game, and will be a good test for us," Crocker said.
